Who We Are
Green Deshis, a 501 (c)(3) non profit organization, provides a source in the Bengali community for culturally motivated commitment to sustainable living. We will engage our future environmental champions by using relatable information about food and water which can impact daily lives. Our goal is to build knowledge by using relevant data, facts, stories, and experiences from eco-friendly institutions, groups, and individuals. We will collaborate with Bangladeshi environmental and agricultural agencies to further research on sustainable development and management of natural resources. Scholarships will be given to inspired students to work with environmental advocates, educators, community and corporate leaders in Bangladesh.
Zain Khan is an environmentally conscious high school student who hopes to pursue an innovative career in developing a more sustainable earth. His passion grew while working on The Roots Farm at McDonogh School. Learning about our food system made him realize that all of us have to change the way we approach our daily lives. During this same time period, Zain’s cultural connection to Bangladesh deepened while he worked with Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed to publish Towards A Sonar Bangla, a book about the birth of the nation. He also had the wonderful opportunity to meet Mr. Muqeed Majumdar (Babu), Chairman of Prokriti O Jibon Foundation and learn about the extensive ongoing work they have been doing to create environmental awareness in Bangladesh.
